Why machine vision makes the difference

Manual visual inspection looks cheap, but rarely is. Even an experienced inspector misses part of the defects after an hour of concentrated looking, and at line speeds of dozens of products per second, one hundred percent inspection by eye is simply impossible. A well-designed vision system looks at every product, the same way every time, and records what it sees.

The value is not in the camera alone. Whether an inspection succeeds is largely decided before a single line of software is written: the right lighting, optics and mounting position make the difference between a system that rejects reliably and one that keeps raising false alarms. That is why we always start with feasibility tests on real products from your line, not with a catalogue.

The result is more than fewer complaints and rejects at your customer. Because every image and measurement is recorded, you see where and when defects originate — data you can use to improve the production process itself. To me, that is the real value of machine vision: not just finding defects, but preventing them.

How we work

Every vision project follows the same four steps, so you know upfront what to expect.

  1. 1

    Feasibility test

We test your products and defects with different cameras, lenses and lighting. You get the images and honest advice on what can and cannot be detected reliably.

  2. 2

    Design & quotation

Based on the test results we design the complete system: hardware, mounting, software and the connection to your PLC or MES.

  3. 3

    Integration & commissioning

We install the system in your line, preferably during planned maintenance, and validate it at production speed together with your operators.

  4. 4

    Support & optimisation

After delivery we stay involved: we monitor performance, adapt inspections for new products and train your team.

Frequently asked questions about machine vision

What is machine vision?

Machine vision is the automatic inspection of products using industrial cameras, lighting and image processing software. The system captures an image of every product, analyses it within milliseconds and passes the result — pass, fail or a measurement — to the production line controller, which automatically rejects faulty products.

What does a retrofit project look like?

A retrofit starts with a visit to your line and a feasibility test with your own products. We then design a system that fits the existing machine, usually with a compact camera bracket, dedicated lighting and a connection to the current PLC. We prefer to install during a planned stop, so production is barely interrupted.

How much does a machine vision system cost?

That depends heavily on the application. A simple presence or code check with a smart camera costs considerably less than a multi-camera system with deep learning for surface defects. After the feasibility test you receive a concrete quotation, so you can weigh the investment against the cost of rejects, recalls and manual inspection.

When do you choose AI over classic image processing?

Classic, rule-based image processing is ideal for measuring, counting, reading codes and clearly defined defects. Deep learning is stronger with natural variation, such as food products, texture or cosmetic defects that are hard to capture in fixed rules. We often combine both in one system.

Does machine vision work with our existing PLC and software?

Yes. We connect vision systems to common controllers via Profinet, Modbus TCP and digital I/O, among others, and can pass results and images to MES or quality systems for full traceability.
