AI & deep learning in machine vision
The key to a reliable vision system is the right optics, lighting and mechanical integration.
What is advanced image processing in machine vision?
Traditional vision works on rules. Advanced image processing can teach a system to recognise defects that would otherwise go unnoticed. Think of small damages, imperfections or incorrectly assembled components.
This is especially valuable in applications with high variation or where conventional algorithms struggle. For example, in textiles, plastics or the food industry.
How does advanced inspection work?
We start by collecting sample images of good and defective products. Based on this, an image processing model is trained, for example with anomaly detection or classification. This model is then integrated into a vision setup.
For these applications we use specialised image processing algorithms and models such as Anomalib or YOLOv8, fully adapted to your production environment.
Two approaches to advanced vision inspection
Advanced image processing can be applied in two ways. On the one hand, you can train using only defective images so the model learns to recognise and categorise faults. On the other hand, you can train with correct images so deviations are automatically detected based on differences from the normal pattern.
Both methods have their own advantages. In continuous production — such as artificial grass or carpet — there is often no defective sample available. In that case anomaly detection on good images is ideal. In environments where you also want to know the type of defect — such as sorting peppers by appearance — classification with models like YOLO is a good solution.
By defining exactly what you want to measure or signal in advance, we choose the right strategy together.
Practical benefits of advanced image processing
Advanced inspection is flexible, scalable and often more accurate than rule-based systems. It learns with new fault types and requires less manual configuration. Perfect for situations where product types change regularly.
Combine image processing with OCR, technical integration or specialised components for a complete solution.
